Abstract

In Zacatlán, an important fruit growing area of the state of Puebla, pear (Pyrus communis L.) foliage, fruits and branches were sampled during 1987 and 1988. Isolates were made in vitro, and the isolated fungi were identified based upon their morphological characteristics and the symptomatology they produced in the field. To estimate incidence, 10% of the trees in each orchard were sampled. The incidence of Entomosporium maculatum Lev. on leaves was 87%, and on fruits 67%; Corticium koleroga (Cooke) Höhn. appeared in 63% on leaves and branches; for Fusicladium pyrorum (Lib.) Fuckel it was 3.3% and only on leaves of the Mantequilla cv.; for Coryneum spp. the incidence on leaves was 4%; for Septoria pyricola (Desm.) Desm. it was 9.2% on leaves; Monilia fructicola (Wint.) Honey was found on 10% of the fruits; and the complex Cytospora leucostoma (Pers.) Fr. and Tubercularia vulgaris (Todes) Fr. appeared on 18% of the branches.
