Abstract

Two bean weevil species (Zabrotes subfasciatus and Acanthoscelides obtectus) are stored grain pests, thus it is important to identify bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes resistant to the attack of those insects. This was done by comparing the reproduction rates of these insects in six bean cultivars. Canario 107 and Negro Huasteco were resistant to the attack of Z. subfasciatus, but Negro Jamapa, Negro Veracruz, and Sataya 453 were susceptible. Canario 107 was resistant both to Z. subfasciatus and A. obtectus, whereas Amarillo 154 turned out to be susceptible to the first weevil species and resistant to the second one.
